the butterfly house

hello, sweet chickens! it’s been toooo looong. well, i’m back…i think. anyway, enough of all that--let’s start back with an amazing, no PHENOMENAL, house. it’s the butterfly house, one of only five true ocean front properties in carmel, california. can you imagine waking to that view every day? those icky home-staging, 80s furnishings would have to vamoose, but i think i could hang there for a couple of days. enjoy, mes amis.

see you tomorrow?

not sure why they need the pool--too chilly to swim there most days, but it does create some stunning views

look at that view! that window is like a work of art!

summer share | east hampton, ny rental

i don't know about you, but i already feel like i need a vacation from my summer vacation. and you know i love me some hamptons. how about his place? only $45,000 for the month of july. come on, we'd only need like 18 families to go in on it to make it affordable. some of us might have to pitch tents in the yard, though. oh well, it's fun to dream. in my dream, we'd spend mornings at the farm stand, then go into town and stalk barefoot contessa, followed by an afternoon poolside before cocktails and a clambake on the beach. care to join me?

deets, here.

san rafael live/work space

i have all sorts of dreamy little dreams. one of them is to open my own store complete with all sorts of goodies--the kinds of things i like to share with you here. it would be so great to have a place to interact with clients and friends in a retail space while running my graphic design business from the back office. and what more can you ask for than a fun loft-style pad upstairs to call home? have you ever read friday night knitting club? it reminds me of georgia's sweet set-up. plus this place is in marin county--quite possibly the coolest place on earth.

what do you dream about?

palm springs getaway

for this weeks 'real estate wednesday,' i thought it would be fun to look at vacation properties. this one in beautiful and chic palm springs is not for sale, but you can rent it for your next getaway. i am thinking a 40th-birthday-all-girls-weekend kind of getaway. i've lived in california all my life and i have never been to palm springs. i think it is about time.

this house is so beautifully decorated...i LOVE that second bedroom! i'm a sucker for grasscloth and beamed ceilings.

3 bedrooms/3 baths/sleeps 6
$295/night
$1550/week
$3990/month

all the rental info can be found here.

0 nw carpenter street, carmel-by-the-sea, california

this listing is AMAZING! in these little real estate posts i try to find properties that are attainable...they aren't always super inexpensive and, let's face it, the ones in california are always going to be pricey. but to find a place like this in a place like this is almost unheard of--that is to say that finding a beautifully restored (ok, it is tiny, but that is par for the coarse in these parts AND part of the charm) cottage in carmel for under $1 million dollars is close to being a miracle. usually $1 million gets you a tear down.

this little gem was built in 1930 and has been beautifully maintained. as the listing* notes it has been tastefully modernized while keeping that classic carmel charm. can you believe that dutch door? (you know i am a sucker for such things) and that breakfast nook...love!

so why is the address"0"? homes and businesses in this one-square mile village have no street numbers (there are no street lights or parking meters either!) the village was originally an artist colony and many of the cottages were built by the artists and writers who settled there. most of them named their houses instead of establishing street numbers. in an effort to preserve the community, the planning commission has upheld this tradition.

read more about carmel-by-the-sea here.

*The perfect Carmel cottage. Totally remodeled to perfection yet retaining original charm. Gourmet kitchen with stone floors, new appliances and breakfast nook. Spacious master suite opens to deck and backyard. Complete attention to detail throughout. Close to town. JenAir stove, Miele dishwasher, granite. The ultimate Carmel cottage. Exceptionally cute!

this fun craftsman bungalow sits of a beautiful piece of property and its cute built-ins give it tons of character (look at that bathroom!). the kitchen is a little quirky but has lots of potential. and that fireplace--so lovely. not in my price range, but a girl can dream.
